                                   Expert Trekking Guides

Our experienced and knowledgeable trekking guides are the heart of Summa Tanzania Adventure. They are passionate about Mount Kilimanjaro and dedicated to ensuring your safety and success. With their expertise and support, you can conquer the mountain with confidence. We are based in Arusha, Tanzania, giving us unparalleled access and insight into Kilimanjaro's various routes and conditions.

Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in northern Tanzania. The mountain has three volcanic peaks, namely Kibo, Shira, and Mawenzi. The park was established in 1977 as a national park. Mt Kilimanjaro National Park is one of the most visited parks in Tanzania; unlike the other northern parks, it is not a place for wildlife viewing, although wildlife is present there. Almost every type of ecological system can be found on the mountain: cultivated land, rainforest, heath, moor, alpine desert, and an Arctic summit (Uhuru). Kilimanjaro is one of the few places in Africa with permanent snow

However, the month you choose to climb Kilimanjaro affects your experience, so let's take a closer look at it.

January and February are usually the warmest and fall right in the middle of one of Tanzania's two dry seasons. You can expect a lot of sunshine. We recommend these months because the weather conditions make the climb ideal, although these are popular and therefore busy months.

March this month marks the beginning of the so-called 'Long Rains.' In the second half of March, you may experience a completely dry day or a day with endless rain! Because of rain clouds, the sky in Tanzania will not be as clear as in the months of the dry season. And of course, the trails at some altitudes may be muddy, with more snow and ice at higher altitudes.

April and May are the wettest months in Tanzania. Climbers can again expect cloudy skies, slightly lower temperatures, and muddy conditions on the route. We advise against these months.

In mid-June, the long rainy season in Tanzania comes to an end, and we also experience the coolest months of the year. The sky is usually clear and sunny, the mountain trail is dry – there is hardly any rain at this time of year. The conditions for climbing the highest mountain in Africa are excellent.

August, September, and October, the three driest months of the year. Climbers are rewarded in these months with a sunny sky and wonderfully dry paths under their feet. An excellent period for a climb

The rains begin in early November and last until early December. Although the sky is often clear at the beginning and end of the day, it can be cloudy in between. Rain often falls in the afternoon. The precipitation naturally creates wet and muddy conditions on the trail.

You can sense that passion from the moment you meet them for the first time, and you will also be impressed by their 100% dedication to getting you to the top. And despite all the strenuous climbing, despite all the hard work the team puts in to take care of you, they still ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience. They make sure you have fun by singing songs and telling stories, and they will cheer you up so that your climb doesn’t feel as intense.

Our extensive team consists of hardworking Kilimanjaro porters, guides, and cooks. They provide specially trained support during the climb to help you reach the summit.

Our guides and staff have a wealth of knowledge about Kilimanjaro and Tanzania. The mountain has many varied ecological zones with fascinating flora, fauna, and geological features. Our expert team is happy to answer the many questions you will have as the terrain changes with altitude.

According to Tanzanian law, climbing Kilimanjaro without a guide or porter is illegal. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a challenge and a serious commitment. To have a safe and enjoyable trip, you need an experienced team of support staff around you.

Our team is small, but very close-knit and well-coordinated; they work together optimally. Don't forget: you are part of that team. Guides, assistants, carriers, waiters, and our guests all work together to achieve the goal: reaching the top.

During an adventure such as climbing Kilimanjaro, it is important that the climb is as comfortable as possible. Proper preparation is therefore a must. We recommend that you read our packing list carefully to ensure that your luggage has the right shape, size, and condition to get you and your belongings up the mountain.

At night you want to stay warm and dry; during the day, it is best to use a set of hiking poles. The right technical equipment is very important on the mountain.

There are several routes to the 'roof of Africa'

The Marangu Route: is the only route that offers hut accommodation

The Machame Route: is the most popular climbing route of Kilimanjaro

The Lemosho Route: the most beautiful route to Kilimanjaro

The Rongai Route: is the easiest and driest route to Kilimanjaro

The Lemosho route: the most beautiful route to Kilimanjaro

The Umbwe Route: de meest veeleisende en uitdagende route

The Shira Route: is one where you gain significant altitude on the first day

                  Machame Route 6 dagen

Although the Machame route is considered more difficult than the Marangu, it is now the most popular route to Kilimanjaro. The hiking route is longer and steeper, making it potentially preferable for people who are more accustomed to hiking. The Machame route passes along the southern ice field of the mountain before heading to the summit. Those who climb Machame can enjoy a varied and spectacular landscape.

Day 1: After your long flight, Your driver will be ready to welcome you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your hotel in Arusha to relax after your flight. Tomorrow, your adventure will begin!

Day 2: This morning we have a leisurely breakfast in our hotel before we get in the car. Around 10:00 AM, we arrive at Machame Gate (1640 meters). Our first task is to complete the registration formalities before beginning our trek. You will also enjoy meeting your mountain team: your guides, porters, and everyone who will accompany you during your climb. Today’s program includes a long walk: you will cover a total of about 1,332 meters in elevation over a distance of just under 11 km/7 miles.

The beginning of the walk is a wide path that winds its way uphill through dense forest, with beautiful tall trees covered in green moss. As the route becomes steeper and narrower, the vegetation changes and flowers in beautiful colors appear, such as Impatiens kilimanjari and Impatiens pseudoviola, which give the landscape a number of bright colors. You can also see Kibo Peak further to the east.  height 2972m

Day 3 Distance 5 km:

It was hard work this morning, walking along a narrow path, but by lunchtime you are richly rewarded with stunning views to the south and all the way to Kibo. There is no better place for lunch. After an early start around 8:30 AM, we expect to reach our camp around 2:00 PM. By that time, we will have encountered for the first time the lobelias of the heathland and the distinctive dark obsidian rock of the Shira Plateau. From the Shira Caves, you will have time to marvel at several beautiful natural phenomena, such as the so-called 'Shira Cathedral', Klute Peak, and Mount Meru Height  3804 m

Day 4 Hiking distance 10 km :

Today's stage is considerably different in character from yesterday's, with a much longer trek. Of course, we start at 3804 meters, but although we cover almost 10 km/6 miles, by the time we reach Barranco Camp around 4:00 PM, we will have a modest elevation gain of 146 meters. During our walk, however, we climb to the foot of the Lava Tower, which is at an altitude of 4630 meters, before descending again for our overnight stay. Although this may seem somewhat wasteful, it greatly aids the crucial process of acclimatization at altitude.

The vegetation is initially sparse, with only a few hardy lichens to admire. You climb to the Lava Towers and have your picnic lunch at 1:00 PM. After passing the highest point of the day, the Lava Towers, we descend to the camp. Once there, you can enjoy the view of the southern slope of Kibo and the Heim Glacier. In the evening, during dinner, you can share your experiences with others. Height 4630m

Day 5 Hiking distance 10 km:

Today's trek begins differently: a challenging climb along the nearly vertical wall of the Barranco Wall. At the top, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Heim Glacier before we gradually descend into the gorge below and the cold, beautiful Karanga Valley.
We then continue climbing via a steep series of zigzags until we reach Karanga Camp, where we have lunch. After leaving Karanga, today's stage steadily ascends through a barren, rocky landscape, with glaciers visible in the distance to your left. At the top of the climb, the landscape remains bleak as you descend into a valley and see another glacier for the first time, the Rebmann. At the end of this valley lies today's destination, Barafu Camp, which you reach after a short, steep climb and a walk. Height 4556m

Day 6 Hiking distance 17 km

If there's one thing certain on Kilimanjaro, it's that the 'summit day' will be the hardest! But although enormously challenging, hopefully combined with the amazing feeling of accomplishment that you've reached: the summit of Kilimanjaro! We get up at 11:00 PM and have tea and cookies before departing at midnight.

Our goal is to reach the summit (5,895 meters)  and of course we will celebrate it exuberantly , take precious photos, and enjoy this unique experience. After the summit (5,895 meters), we return to Barafu (4,556 meters), where we rest for a few hours, have brunch, and depart again at 1:30 PM to continue descending to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters), where we will spend the night. It was tough, but we reached our goal! Height 5895m

Day 7 Hiking distance 10 km:

Although we still have 9 km to walk, we leave calmly and descend to the Mweka Gate, which is situated at an altitude of 1640 meters. There, around noon, you will receive a hot lunch and be awarded your well-deserved certificate.Your car will be ready to take you back to your hotel in Arusha, where you can relax – or, if you still have energy left, celebrate!

Day 8:

After a good night's sleep in your hotel, breakfast is ready for you. Your check-out will take place at the indicated time of 10:00 AM.

If you have booked a transfer to the airport, you will be picked up from your hotel and dropped off at the airport.
